Modèles : A660 rouge Historical info: A hybrid medium aimed at children was the GE Show 'N Tell, a device for simultaneously playing a phonograph record and displaying a synchronized filmstrip. The record was the size of a 45, but played at 33 1/3 rpm. The filmstrip, with about 12 frames on what appeared to be 8mm film, was housed in a rigid cardboard or plastic strip, with a tab at the top for easy removal from the player. The display resembled a television screen, but was actually nothing more than a magnifier for a given frame of the filmstrip. The phonograph was on the top of the "TV" set. It could also be used to play 45-sized records (at either 33 1/3 or 45rpm) without viewing a filmstrip. Each topic consisted of a folder containing a filmstrip and accompanying record. The "A" side of the record was to be played synchronized with the filmstrip. The "B" side was related audio (such as a song) on the same topic, but was not intended to be played with the filmstrip. A "light-saver" switch allowed the video display (i.e. the lightbulb) to be turned off while playing the "B" side, or any record not designed for filmstrip synchronization. To play a record with filmstrip, one started by turning on the set, setting the turntable speed switch to "N", and rotating the turntable by hand until an indicator line appeared in a small window next to the turntable. Otherwise synchronization could be off. One then set the record "A" side up on the turntable, and set the tone arm by hand at the beginning of the record. The slot for the filmstrip was in the top of the set, to the right of the turntable. One had to move the tone arm to gain access to the slot, one reason why you had to set the tone arm on the record before inserting the filmstrip. One slid the filmstrip into the slot as far as it would go, limited by the large tab at the top of the filmstrip; then adjusted so that the first frame of the film was properly centered on the screen. A lever in the side of the set adjusted the focus. Moving the turntable speed switch to "33" started the record. Synchronization of the film to the audio was then automatic. Well over 100 filmstrip/record sets were available for the GE Show 'N Tell. Categories included Disney characters, Fairy Tales, Children's Classics (Heidi, Robinson Crusoe, Treasure Island, etc.), Christmas, Fun with Facts (Dinosaurs, Indians, Wright Bros., etc.), and Captain Kangaroo. Some titles that surprised me were "Hans Brinker and [sic] the Silver Skates" (properly "Hans Brinker, or, the Silver Skates"), "Huckleberry Finn," and, most surprising of all, "Jane Eyre." Needless to say, longer and more complex stories such as "Jane Eyre" suffered even greater oversimplification than "Children's Classics" such as "Treasure Island." Fabriqué par Child Guidence Toys

Boîte: image dessinée par Joe Schuster, un des créateurs de Supertman "Flash Exciting Picture Stories On The Wall". "196 Exciting Adventure Pictures".
Between 1939 and 1940 there were only 4 significant Superman toys and the Superman Krypto Raygun was one of them. An author of a collectable toy book said that the Superman Krypto Raygun is one of the "RAREST" and most "DESIRED" Superman Character Toys. These gun's were played with as Ray Gun's and Flashlights more than they were used as a projector. As a result, this Superman Krypto Raygun is not as easy to find as other Superman collectables.

Bague contenant une image (Stanhope).

1. Take ring into dark room or closet. Close door so that no light can enter. 2. Wait until pupils of eyes dilate - this may take from 2 to 10 minutes. Best and quickest results are obtained at night. 3. Twist red tail-fin on ring until it slides off the bomb. 4. Hold ring close to your eyes. Look into the Observation Lens which seals the atom chamber. 5. Keep your eye glued to Observation lens. You'll see brilliant flashes of light in the inky darkness inside the atom chamber. These frenzied, vivid flashes are caused by the released energy of split atoms.

3 Stooges Moving Picture Machine
Offert pour l'achat de deux Pillsbury's Farina
1937
This premium was both a prize awarded by movie theaters as well as being offered w/purchase of two packages of Pillsbury's Farina. We start w/premium which bw cardboard punch-out which consists of a total of three panels for an overall size of 12x31". This assembles to form an actual working movie projector which includes photos of Three Stooges on one side panel. One of the three panels is separated along perforated edge but all pieces remain intact but top center does have a 3x3.5" piece that was removed but this was a portion that was meant to be discarded, all assembly pieces are intact. A few loose perforations and some lt. margin tanning but premium is VF. The next item is an incredible spiral-bound portfolio containing numerous inserts. This is 11.5x14" w/thick clear celluloid front and back covers plus 20 stiff paper pages, all in bwr/yellow. The cover features illustration of camera and filmstrip and text includes "The Movies' Foremost Laugh Producers Are Ready To Help Sell Pillsbury's Farina To The Millions Of Youngsters Who Go Eagerly To See Them In Thousands Of Theaters." The next two pages have pair of film scenes plus Stooges portraits surrounded by text referring to their films' popularity. The next two pages have four additional film scenes w/promotional text. The next two pages picture and describe the moving picture premium. On the following two pages one notes the premium's availability w/Farina products while the other has a storage pocket and contains two complete "Picture Sheets" used in conjunction w/premium projector to make "Movie Reels." Each sheet is 11x18" two-sided in bw w/total of 56 numbered perforated pictures. Text on this page notes there were eight different sets issued and these are "Set 1 Uncivil War, Set 2 Grips, Grunts & Groans; Set 5 False Alarms, Set 6 3 Little Pigskins." All feature Three Stooges film scenes. Each sheet has some loose perforations but all is intact and VF to Exc. On the next two pages one relates to the "Radio Promotion" while the other has a storage pocket containing a store poster and also includes three different images of how the poster could be displayed. This poster is 6.5x25" w/front in bwr/yellow and includes image of a boy holding the premium while the bw reverse includes illustrations of the premium, store displays, etc. w/information on displaying and promoting this promotion. This poster is exceptionally bright and clean w/vibrant color, VF as is but w/minor professional restoration, appearance will be essentially NM. On the following two pages one has large image of a store display while the other has a storage pocket and contains a window poster. This one-sided poster is 14.25x21" in bwr/yellow/blue. Features a different image of boy w/premium, top margin has portrait photos of the Three Stooges. Has lt. wear along original fold lines, 1" tear at top center but VF. The next page has illustration of a group of children reading a newspaper comic section which has an ad for this premium. This page also has a storage pocket which contains a 12x17" color newspaper ad proof which has yet a different illustration of boy w/premium plus portrait photos of the Stooges. This has lt. fold lines but is Exc. Next page has three different ad mats. Following two pages have promotional text, some of which is done as if on a giant sign being held by Curly and on either side of him are Moe and Larry, all have actual photo heads while their bodies are illustrations. The next two pages explain how the premium was not only offered by Pillsbury but available at movie theaters and there is a storage pocket which contains six identical 5x8" two-sided bw "Theater Circulars." Each has glossy front w/Three Stooges photo and facimile signature "Your Friends Larry, Moe & Curly Columbia's 3 Stooges." Illustrated reverse pictures and describes the premium and notes that 25 were to be given away free at the theater. As noted in the promotional text, children who had a circular w/star printed on the back were the ones who received the premium. Of the circulars in this lot, three have printed stars, one has ink stamp star, two are without stars. The kids were called on stage by the theater manager and presented w/premium. These handout photos are scarce on their own and list at $300 each in NM in Hake's Premium Toy Guide. Each has minor trace of margin wear from handling but all remain Exc. Of the final two pages, one has illustration of movie theater w/large "Theater One-Sheet" poster prominently on display (this poster is included in this lot). Back cover is photo of Farina box. The celluloid cover on back has a 2x2" piece missing at lower right corner. On front bottom left corner is a 4" split plus bottom two sprockets of the plastic spiral binding are missing. The portfolio's actual covers have moderate scattered dust soiling as do page margins. Fine. Next item is the one-sheet lobby poster which is 27x39.25" great full color featuring Stooges portraits at top plus large image of boy holding the premium. This is the first item shown in our photo. Has moderate scattered wear along original fold lines, extensive clear tape added to fold lines on reverse. This includes repair on back to a 6" tear along bottom right fold line. Along the center vertical fold line are three small spots of missing paper, one is .25" dia. and the other is .25x.5", both of these are on the green bkg. above the illustration of the projector while the third is .25x.5" and on the image of the projector just below and to the right of center. Other lt. margin wear but all remains exceptionally bright and clean w/rich color. Next item is 9x12" "Exhibitor's Pressbook" although in our catalogue under the photo we mislabeled this a "folder." This 16-page bw book is quite detailed and includes many illustrations and photos of the Stooges, premium, promotional items, etc. Text notes the items that were to be supplied by "Your Columbia Exchange" for first through fourth matinees. One page pictures four different publicity stills featuring the Stooges w/premium as well as the handout photos. Two other pages have title "Here Is How The Plan Works" w/six illustrated panels showing the promotion in action at a movie theater including kids being awarded the premium. Back cover has a cut-out "Paste-Over" to be used in conjunction w/lobby poster and notes "2 New And Different Sets Of Moving Pictures." Text notes this was to be used for second, third and fourth matinees. Great front cover features image of the Stooges, all holding the premium and walking past a ticket booth while a large group of children follow them. This is an illustration except for the Stooges' heads which are actual photos. Pressbook is quite nice and contains much different information from the portfolio. Slightest margin aging but Exc. The final group of items in this lot are all glossy bw photos. Three are 8x10" publicity stills, two of them show the Three Stooges w/projector and store display, one is of just the store display. One of these is also shown in the pressbook. Five others are also 8x10", three of these show outside of three different movie theaters, all w/patrons gathering outside and all have the large lobby poster visible. The other two in this group include photo of movie theater stage filled w/children, many whom hold the premium, other is group of children, all holding the handout photo (corner tip off). Final group are seven 3x4" photos which include children lined up outside of movie theaters, viewing the lobby poster, four publicity shot on one of movie theaters, photo of premium and promotional items sent to movie theater and one reading "The End" picturing Three Stooges in tuxedos. All photos have scattered margin wear but are clean and mostly VF. All of the movie theater photos were personally taken by Sam Gold in Chicago. In the mid-1990s Christy's Auction sold some Gold premiums. A lot similar to this but w/a lot fewer items realized $13,800 plus a buyer's premium. This is the last known complete group in the Gold Archives. This is a file copy from the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold accompanied by a letter to that effect from Gordon Gold
